Britney Held on 5150

Brit's brother, Bryan, and mom leave the hospital at 5:30 am this morning

Earlier this morning, Britney was transported by ambulance (with a police escort motorcade) to the UCLA Medical Center and placed on a psychiatric hold.
She was taken to UCLA Medical Centre around 1.30am after a carefully staged intervention planned by her mother Lynne Spears, with the police calling ahead to waiting medics with the message: "The package is on its way."
Britney is on a three-day psychiatric hold, but sources say there is a "good possibility" that it will be extended to 14 days.

Britney's trip to UCLA was the result of a meticulously planned "snatch and grab" intervention led by her mother Lynne.
"She had no idea it was coming," said the source, adding: "Lynne planned it down to the last detail."
When Britney heard she was being taken into care, she said: "Is something wrong?" and insiders say she was too "out of it" to resist.
But she then reportedly made herself a hot chocolate while she waited for the paramedics to arrive. She was strapped to a hospital trolley before being carried into the ambulance.

Britney, who is being treated for bipolar disorder, had not slept in days was seen driving blindly around in a new Mercedes two days before the intervention.
At one point, she became lost and asked a photographer for directions using an English accent.
She had been on a three-day binge using the deadly addictive drug crystal meth in the time leading up to the stand-off over her children. "Britney was high on meth and naked all day before," a source said.

"Even when losing her boys became an issue, she didn't stop. After the boys were taken from her, Britney went on another drug binge, using crystal meth almost every day for an entire week."

Co-heading Lynne's team of helpers, says the source, was Britney's father Jamie, along with representatives from Britney's legal team and record label Jive Records.
"She did everything in her power to get Britney away from her boyfriend Adnan, but most of all from Sam Lutfi," said the source.

Lutfi, has been a controversial figure in the star's life over the past year, and her friends and family have regularly expressed concerned over his influence.
Adds the source: "He has been controlling her at every turn and they needed to put a stop to it."

"Lynne's opinion is that it has gone on long enough. She needs to get Lutfi out of Britney's life - and by whatever means necessary."
Her hatred of Lutfi reached a peak of intensity late last year when she discovered he was attempting to sell her private diary to media outlets, was visibly disgusted at his attempts to play nice for the cameras She arrived around 1am.

It happened after Brit had another temper tantrum. “She was driving around her neighborhood like a mad-woman. Britney has been prescribed medication which she refuses to take. This is just another sad, sad evening.”Brit's shrink was called to the house, and upon observing Britney’s erratic behavior, decided it was time to have her committed and called the cops.

Both Jamie and Lynne Spears were present when the police and ambulance arrived to haul her over to the hospital. A source revealed, “there is no question she is bipolar… she’s had manic episodes for years.”
Britney is under what is known as a 5150, an emergency 72-hour hold for psychiatric treatment and evaluation.

UPDATE: We're told Britney's mother, father and brother have been "working closely with the LAPD for weeks" to get her back in for psychiatric care. There is now a dogfight between Britney's family and Sam Lutfi over who will make medical decisions, however, that fight is now put on hold because the judge now makes the call. Sam is trying to take charge, as Britney has him listed as power of attorney and as someone who can make decisions on her behalf. Her parents have won round one, but Sam is refusing to go away. Lynne is asking the courts to allow her to take Britney home to Louisiana once she is released from the hospital.
